Step‑by‑Step Setup Guide
Visit Ledger.com/start: Open your browser and go to https://ledger.com/start to begin.
Select Your Device: Choose which Ledger model you own (Nano S, Nano X, Stax, etc.) so instructions apply correctly.
Download Ledger Live: Install the official Ledger Live app for your operating system (Windows, macOS, Linux, or mobile). Only download from Ledger.com.
Connect Your Device: Use the provided USB cable to connect the Ledger device to your computer or mobile (if applicable). Ledger Live should detect it.
Initialize Device: If it’s uninitialized, choose “Set up as new device.” If it’s been used before, choose “Restore from recovery phrase.”
Install or Update Firmware: Ledger Live will prompt you to install or update firmware. Do not skip this—firmware ensures security and compatibility.
Write Down Recovery Phrase: Your device will generate a 24‑word recovery phrase. Write it down carefully in order on the provided sheet. Confirm by entering specific words when prompted.
Create a PIN Code: Choose a 4‑ to 8‑digit PIN. You’ll use this PIN each time you unlock your Ledger. Too many wrong attempts will factory-reset the device.
Install App(s) for Your Cryptocurrencies: In Ledger Live, go to “Manager” and install apps for Bitcoin, Ethereum, or any other supported coins you intend to use.
Add Accounts: In the “Accounts” tab, add accounts for each crypto asset you want to manage. You’ll now be able to send, receive, and monitor your balances.
Explore Features in Ledger Live: Use features like staking, swapping, NFT management, and portfolio tracking directly via Ledger Live — always confirming actions on device.
Recover an Existing Wallet
Already have a Ledger recovery phrase? During setup, choose the “Restore from recovery phrase” option. Enter each word only when prompted and in the proper order. After validation, your accounts and balances will sync automatically with Ledger Live.
Never enter your recovery phrase into any computer or website outside of Ledger’s secure input interface.
